Somatic Polarity Method A structured approach to preparing and navigating Deep Circular Breathing.

Deep Circular Breathing (DCB) has been used for many years as a practice for self-exploration, emotional processing, and deeper awareness of bodily experience. During the breathing process, memories, emotions, bodily sensations, and insights may arise spontaneously.

For many people, this spontaneous process is sufficient.

However, years of practical experience raised an important question:

When someone enters a breathing session with a specific issue—such as trauma, addiction, relationship difficulties, shame, or low self-worth—is the first experience that emerges during breathing necessarily the one that most needs attention?

The DCB and Somatic Polarity Method was developed in response to this question.

Rather than changing the breathing technique itself, the method introduces a structured preparation process before breathing begins. It helps identify the participant's subjective experience, explore how that experience is organized within the body, consider its possible protective function, and identify an accessible resource state.

Breathing then becomes a field in which these somatic organizations can be explored while preserving the spontaneous nature of the DCB process.

The method integrates practical principles drawn from:

  • Deep Circular Breathing (DCB)
  • Psychosynthesis
  • Somatic Experiencing®
  • Polyvagal Theory

while remaining a distinct and independent practical protocol.

What Makes This Method Different?

The method proposes that people may not always enter a breathing session in direct contact with their primary experience. The experience may already have been softened, rationalized, reinterpreted, or unconsciously censored.

Before breathing begins, the protocol therefore helps participants explore:

  • their subjective experience;
  • its somatic organization;
  • the possible protective function of that organization;
  • the underlying need it may serve;
  • an accessible body-based resource state.

These elements provide a somatic map for the breathing process.

The breath is not directed toward a predetermined psychological outcome. Instead, the two somatic organizations provide reference points within which the spontaneous DCB process can unfold.

Current Status

The DCB and Somatic Polarity Method is currently presented as a practical protocol for professional evaluation and further research.

It is not presented as a new school of psychotherapy or as a treatment for trauma or mental health disorders.

The current Working Paper describes the theoretical framework, practical protocol, safety principles, and professional boundaries of the method.

Its central hypotheses require further systematic evaluation through collaboration with breathwork practitioners, psychologists, psychotherapists, physicians, and researchers.

Invitation

This project is an open invitation to the international professional community.

Breathwork facilitators, psychologists, psychotherapists, physicians, somatic practitioners, and researchers are invited to explore the Working Paper, observe the demonstration session, critically evaluate the protocol, and contribute to its further development.

Progress in this field depends not on individual claims, but on open dialogue, careful observation, systematic evaluation, and responsible collaboration.
